If you are diagnosed with periodontal disease, your periodontist may recommend a range of treatments. Commonly debridement (deep cleaning) of the root surfaces is undertaken over a number of appointments using local anaesthetic (the same you are administered for a dental filling). The aim is to halt the progression of periodontal disease- to keep the bone levels where they are to prevent tooth loss long-term.
